Avadh Utopia Clubhouse, Surat

Approximately 2 lakh sq ft of members-only clubhouse interiors — lounges, dining, banquet and recreation spaces built for continuous use by a large resident membership.

Vishal Parmar worked on this project as an interior designer at Urban Studio, Bandra, between 2014 and 2018, assisting Architect Pronit Nath, the practice's founder, through design and execution. His responsibilities ran end to end: design development, selecting every material and element, negotiating with vendors, presenting and defending design decisions to the client, and supervising execution so that what was built matched what was drawn. Sourcing took him to China to select furniture, lighting and finishes directly from manufacturers.

Clubhouse work runs on a different discipline to residential. Finishes have to survive years of heavy footfall. Lighting has to read well across a double-height volume at every hour of the day. Circulation must hold when several hundred members use the space at once. Every material decision is made against maintenance and wear, not appearance alone.
